Students at Landmark academy at reunion celebrate first annual latin culture week

Landmark Academy at Reunion , a tuition-free public charter school, recently hosted their First Annual Latin Culture Week, a week focused on educating students on the various aspects of Latin culture, from music and art to sports and celebrities, through unique activities. During the week-long celebration, students were able to step into the lives of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans with Latin culture lessons through piñata making, cultural crafts, songs, traditional foods and more. Students made maracas and learned a traditional Mexican Hat Dance; created Aztec suns working with metal tooling; and studied different countries in Mexico , Central America and South America . Aztec dancers from the Colorado Folk Arts Council also visited with students and educated them on the spiritual and traditional aspects of Aztec culture through dance. “We reside in a community with strong Latin and Hispanic roots,” said Matt Carlton, principal of Landmark Academy at Reunion . “Our community culture is important to us at Landmark. School District 27J is pleased to announce the finalists for Superintendent

The person selected will assume the Superintendency July 2, 2012 upon Dr. Blunck’s retirement.

The Board of Education invites the community to meet these candidates at a Community Open House on Friday, April 29 from 4-5:30 at the District Training Center located on 8th Ave directly south of Brighton Heritage Academy. Committees will interview the candidates on the morning of April 30, and the Board of Education will make its decision that afternoon. Finalists include:

Dr. Tammy Clementi- Currently Turnaround Manager for the Colorado Department of Education. Dr. Clementi previously served as Chief Academic Officer in Pueblo City Schools, Interim Superintendent in Aguilar School District , and Director of Curriculum and Student Achievement in Fountain Fort Carson School District . She received her PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Denver .

Dr. Chris Fiedler- Currently Principal at Prairie View High School. Dr. Fiedler previously served as Principal of Thimmig Elementary School, Superintendent of Schools in Deer Trail, and Superintendent of School in Gilpin County . He received his PhD in Education from Nova University .

Dr. Oliver Grenham- Currently Executive Director of Learning Services in Adams County School District 50. Dr. Grenham previously served in several Director positions for Adams 50 including Elementary, Assessment, and Student Services. He has also been a Principal and Technology Coordinator for Adams 50.
