Commerce City, CO (March 28, 2011) – Outreach and enrollment staff from Community Health Services (CHS) were honored by the Adams County School District 14 Board of Education at their March 22nd meeting for their efforts to reach out to and enroll students from the district in public health insurance. During the 2009-2010 school year alone, 1,422 children were enrolled in Medicaid, CHP+ or the CHS sliding fee scale.
CHS outreach staff members Maria Zubia, Isabel Garcia and Bobbi Garcia-Abrego, as well as executive director Norma Portnoy, were on hand to accept a certificate of acknowledgement in recognition for their positive contributions to Adams 14 from the Board. During the presentation, Superintendent Sue Chandler commended CHS and their staff for providing valuable services to children in the Adams 14 school district.
“Adams 14 values its partnership with Community Health Services,” said Adams 14 Board of Education President Jeannette Lewis. “I truly believe school-based health clinics have improved our attendance rate, and have improved the quality of both students’ lives and their education.”
CHS provides primary and preventive health care services to children ages birth to 21 years, focusing on the uninsured, underinsured, low income, and at-risk populations to ensure that no child goes without the health care they need. The agency’s outreach and enrollment program helps families navigate the complex application process for Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus; and, for those who do not qualify for government-sponsored health insurance, CHS offers a sliding fee scale. The outreach and enrollment program is responsible for having enrolled thousands of children in health care programs over the past 10 years.
