Prairie View High School in Brighton Placed on Lockdown

BRIGHTON, Colo. - A 20-year-old man was arrested during a scuffle Monday afternoon at Prairie View High School in Brighton, and the school was placed on lockdown as a result.

According to Brighton police, Andrew Cordova was contacted by officers after they received information he was at the school to assault a student who had allegedly been harassing Cordova's sister.

When the police officer conducted a pat-down search of Cordova, he said he found a knife, which was removed from Cordova's pants. While attempting to take Cordova into custody, the man resisted and the officer called for emergency cover at the school at 1:02 p.m. That prompted the school to initiate a lockdown.
Several other Brighton police officers responded to the call, and Cordova was taken into custody after a minor scuffle, police said.

Cordova was held for investigation of unlawfully carrying a weapon on school grounds, interference with students of an education institution and resisting arrest.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:28 p.m.
