School News: Dr. Chris Fiedler is NEW 27J Superintendent of Schools

Students at Landmark academy at reunion celebrate first annual latin culture week

Landmark Academy at Reunion , a tuition-free public charter school, recently hosted their First Annual Latin Culture Week, a week focused on educating students on the various aspects of Latin culture, from music and art to sports and celebrities, through unique activities. During the week-long celebration, students were able to step into the lives of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans with Latin culture lessons through piñata making, cultural crafts, songs, traditional foods and more. Students made maracas and learned a traditional Mexican Hat Dance; created Aztec suns working with metal tooling; and studied different countries in Mexico , Central America and South America . Aztec dancers from the Colorado Folk Arts Council also visited with students and educated them on the spiritual and traditional aspects of Aztec culture through dance. “We reside in a community with strong Latin and Hispanic roots,” said Matt Carlton, principal of Landmark Academy at Reunion . “Our community culture is important to us at Landmark. Dr. Chris Fiedler is NEW 27J Superintendent of Schools

The School District 27J Board of Education is proud to announce that Dr. Chris Fiedler has been offered, and accepted the position of Superintendent of Schools upon the retirement of current Superintendent Dr. Rod L. Blunck in June of 2012. Dr. Fiedler is currently the Principal of Prairie View High School and will remain in that role until he transitions to the superintendency in 2012.

Board of Education Vice-President Russ Carr stated that he is excited about the selection of Dr. Fiedler. Director Carr went on to say that this selection upholds the integrity of the succession planning that the Board of Education has required of current Superintendent Dr. Rod Blunck and that Dr. Fiedler is the leader to carry on the good work that is currently happening within the district.

The Board of Education would like to thank the participants in this process for their many hours of commitment and service to School District 27J.
