With more jobs requiring a college degree, and the price of higher education skyrocketing, student loans give hardworking Colorado students the ability to pursue their dreams, goals, and ambitions.
Sammantha O'Brien, a student at Metro State, stressed the importance of financial affordability and student loans.
"It breaks my heart to think that other people are out there that are like me, who are applying for college, who wouldn't have the same opportunity because [loans] would be gone. Financial aid has definitely been something that saved me, and gave me opportunities I would not have had otherwise," said Sammantha.
Michael believes that no student should be denied the opportunity to pursue a college education based only on financial circumstances. That is why he has stood up in the Senate to make attending college more affordable and accessible.
Earlier this year, Michael voted in favor of the The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act to upgrade community colleges, invest in higher education and training programs, expand the Pell Grant program to make college more accessible, and enact new rules to make student loans more affordable. The bill was later signed into law by President Obama.
