GOV. RITTER APPOINTS NEW MEMBER TO HIGHER-ED COMMISSION

Gov. Bill Ritter announced today he has appointed Richard C. Kaufman of Centennial to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education for a term expiring July 12, 2012. Kaufman will fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of commission member Michael D. Plachy.

He previously served on the Board of Advisors for Emory University Law School, and he has worked as an assistant U.S. Attorney, deputy attorney general for Colorado and legislative assistant to then-U.S. Rep. Hank Brown.

Kaufman is an Air Force veteran and has been recognized as a “Colorado Super Lawyer” by Law and Politics. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1972 and his law degree from Emory University in Atlanta in 1976.

The 11-member CCHE sets policies for all state-supported public institutions of higher education.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation.
