Students at Landmark academy at reunion celebrate first annual latin culture week

Landmark Academy at Reunion , a tuition-free public charter school, recently hosted their First Annual Latin Culture Week, a week focused on educating students on the various aspects of Latin culture, from music and art to sports and celebrities, through unique activities. During the week-long celebration, students were able to step into the lives of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans with Latin culture lessons through piñata making, cultural crafts, songs, traditional foods and more. Students made maracas and learned a traditional Mexican Hat Dance; created Aztec suns working with metal tooling; and studied different countries in Mexico , Central America and South America . Aztec dancers from the Colorado Folk Arts Council also visited with students and educated them on the spiritual and traditional aspects of Aztec culture through dance. “We reside in a community with strong Latin and Hispanic roots,” said Matt Carlton, principal of Landmark Academy at Reunion . “Our community culture is important to us at Landmark. Adams 14 Receives Two Awards for Its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Aug. 31, 2010) – Adams County School District 14, which serves more than 7,000 students annually, has received two awards in recognition of its financial reporting division.

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) presented Adams 14 with its Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Program. This accolade, awarded for excellence in preparation and issuance of the fiscal year-end 2009 school system, celebrates Adams 14’s high-quality Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) also rewarded Adams 14’s CAFR with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award for Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and showcases Adams 14’s spirit of full disclosure in clearly communicating its financial story.

“Being recognized for our District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report by two prominent entities really highlights the dedication and proficiency of our financial business staff,” said Dr. Susan Chandler, Adams 14 Superintendent. “The District’s approach to financial reporting creates transparency and enhances two-way communication opportunities with key stakeholders, as well as within the community we serve.”
